About this project
This project aims to establish a solar power station to provide a clean energy service to a pilot agricultural farm and to install solar lighting systems in the surrounding rural villages. This project will emphasize increasing agricultural productivity, improving access to energy and energy security, and improve women's empowerment, energy security and food security.
The solar powered farm will run irrigation systems and cold storage and food processing facilities that will allow year-round planting and reduce post-harvest loss. At the same time solar powered street lighting will be installed in rural villages to provide improved street safety and enable the increase in night time economic opportunities and for women and girls increase flexibility and safety in being secure in using light to engage in work, study and participation in local community life.
This project will also train women and youth in solar energy usage and maintenance; raising local awareness and interest in solar energy entrepreneurship so that local ownership will exist and that learned lessons can be shared.
Goals and Objectives
Increase farm yields through solar-powered irrigation.
Provide clean and reliable electricity to rural communities.
Empower women through energy access, skills training, and economic inclusion.
Support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2, 5, 7, 13, 15).
Expected result
Solar-powered farm operational
A fully operational and functioning agricultural farm. Created using a mini solar power station (5-10kW), the solar farm supported irrigation, storage and basic processing of the agricultural products.
Increased agricultural productivity
Contribution toward 30-50% increase in crop yields due to year-round irrigation, additional access to energy in support of their farm operations.
Rural electrification creating more sustainable livelihoods
Installation of solar streetlights in community areas (market place, heath facility and school) in at least 1-2 of the villages, expanding access of over 500 residents to new lighting and energy production opportunities.
Women empowered and included
At least 50 women trained to be able to maintain solar solution, sustainable farming practices, or in green entrepreneurship.
Reduced reliance upon fossil fuels
Replaced diesel generators and kerosene lamps, in target areas, reducing CO2 emissions, and improving air quality.
Improved safety and social inclusion
Increased mobility and safety for women and children in public spaces in the evening/night due to extent of well-lit spaces.
Capacity built about youth and local actors
At least 20 local youth trained in renewable energy installation and management, facilitating opportunities for local ownership.
Awareness possibly leading to replication
Documented pilot model that can be replicated in other villages or areas with similar requirements.
About me / organisation
TOPEGLO Heaven Chalom
The project is being driven by Topeglo Chalom, founder of Pulsar Eco Group, a social enterprise working in sustainable development and environmental innovation. At age 27, Chalom brings leadership qualities and a clear vision for community adaptation in relation climate change using renewable energy and green technologies.
Chalom has a Bachelor's Degree in Audit and Management Control, which enhances his capacity for strategic planning, financial management, and project monitoring, with such training providing opportunities for transparency, efficiency, and accountability through the project implementation.
Chalom is responsible for entire project life-cycle including design, project management, technical coordination, stakeholder engagement, social impact evaluation, etc. Chalom has experience managing clean energy, waste management, and climate-smart agriculture initiatives, specifically targeting women and youth.
Chalom has built his competency working directly with local leaders, NGOs, and local and provincial governments; he brings significant cultural knowledge and negotiation development.
Chalom's leadership is grounded in financial austerity, technical proficiency, with a strong commitment to social and environmental impact making him ideal to project-manage this ambitious and inclusive project.
