Proposal Title: Empowering Green Innovators – Youth Climate Action through Tech, Creativity, and Innovation

Theme: Fighting Climate Change with Technology, Creativity, and Innovation for a Greener and Sustainable Future.

Problem

Our planet faces extremely harsh impacts of climate change, the northern part of Africa is facing extreme drought, and coastal regions are facing floods and sea level rise, causing the displacement of population from one place to another, exacerbating the impact of climate change in a given community.

From surveys and questioning of certain youths and persons, we came to notice, some people practice environmentally unfriendly acts because they don’t know the impact of their actions on the climate and the environment. Also, some youths know the impacts, however lack the tools, ideas, or solutions they can seek to solve this pertinent problem in their community, and this therefore leads to a loss of hope in due time. Furthermore, some undergo their training to solve the problem, but never decide to tackle a problem related to climate change.

Solution

ClimInnov-The Green, a youth-driven organization that aims to fight Climate change and its impacts across Cameroon and Africa with the use of creativity, technology, and Innovation. We target youths and engage them through mentoring on Climate topics such as Renewable energy resources, agriculture, waste management, and other related topics. We aim not only to mentor students and create awareness, but also to equip them with practical skills by guiding them through project development. This approach aims to make the youth think more about how their solutions can be implemented in the community.

Program

Phase 1: Awareness and Education (3 Months): Mentorship and climate education in the following core areas; Renewable Energy and Clean Power, Waste Management, and Circular Economy, Emissions, Pollution, and Carbon Sequestration, Clean Water, Sanitation, and Climate-Health Nexus, Sustainable Agriculture and Agroforestry, Climate Policy, Advocacy, and Global Negotiation

Phase 2: Innovation and Project Development (3 Months)

Weekly hands-on workshops focused on solution design and prototyping.

Each team is paired with a mentor aligned with their project’s theme.

Focus on practical skill-building and localized climate research.

Phase 3: Competition and Selection

Teams will be evaluated through:

Written assessments: MCQs (25%), Structured (50%), Essay (25%) – contributing 20% of the total score.

Prototype/project submission and presentation to a jury of climate experts – 80% of the total competition.

Regional Selection: Top 3 projects per region move to national finals.

Final Competition: Held with potential funders and stakeholders.

Post-Competition: Top 3–5 projects will receive technical mentorship, funding, and development support toward implementation.

About me / organisation
Mundu Afunde Jofete S.

I am a passionate Climate Advocate with a track record of impactful volunteer work at organizations like EcoHub. My experiences as a fellow and Green Ambassador at the Green Institute have equipped me with the knowledge and drive to make a significant difference in the fight against climate change.

In addition to honing my skills in Climate change and advocacy, I am a student with a great interest in tech and innovation, with a heavy background in climate advocacy. With the TiC foundation, I had the opportunity to volunteer and mentor high school students to take part in the TiC summit competition with a project on a Biogas Digester, to promote the use of clean and affordable cooking gas in our community. We made it to the finals and took fifth place in the national competition.

I have successfully led projects aimed at addressing the critical issues of climate change, such as implementing effective waste management solutions with smart bins. Clean energy is my targeted SDG, to build a hydrogen generation plant, through the process of electrolysis. I am committed to making a lasting impact in this field. I hope to learn more as time goes to empower myself with the necessary skills needed to promote Clean energy and Climate advocacy.
