About this project

I propose designing and installing Automatic Plant Watering Systems (APWS) connected to indoor green spaces across select BISAD school classrooms and community areas. These systems will ensure that plants are consistently watered even during long absences while promoting sustainability, better indoor air quality, and environmental awareness in school communities. To enhance the effectiveness of APWS, the project will integrate a smart plant health monitoring system that combines biological understanding of plant needs with robotics and electronics knowledge.

Goals and Objectives
  • Design and build a low-cost, solar-powered or battery-based APWS using basic electronics and water sensors.
  • Raise awareness through social media.
  • Successfully distribute the system across schools and community.
Expected result

· Specific: Design and build an automatic plant watering system that uses soil moisture sensors to detect dryness and activate a water pump to irrigate indoor plants.

· Measurable: The system should maintain soil moisture between 30%–60% and reduce manual watering frequency by at least 90%.

· Achievable: Use readily available components like Arduino, moisture sensors, a water pump, and basic coding skills to complete the prototype.

· Relevant: Supports sustainable living and plant health by automating irrigation, especially useful for busy individuals or frequent travelers.

· Time-Bound: Complete the design, assembly, and testing of the system within 1 year.
