About this project
In many rural and underdeveloped areas, access to clean and safe drinking water is still a major challenge. The community currently relies on water sources that are often contaminated with bacteria, waste, and other pollutants, leading to frequent outbreaks of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid.
This project aims to address the dirty water crisis by introducing simple and affordable water purification systems, conducting awareness campaigns on hygiene and sanitation, and involving local youth in monitoring water sources. The project will also include the installation of community water filters and the promotion of rainwater harvesting as an alternative solution.
By reducing health risks and improving access to safe water, the initiative will directly benefit over 300 households. It also seeks to build long-term community capacity to manage and maintain water resources sustainably. This project supports national health goals and contributes to the achievement of SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for all.
Goals and Objectives
Goal:
To ensure access to clean, safe, and sustainable drinking water for the community by addressing the issue of contaminated water sources.
Objectives:
1. Improve Water Quality
Install low-cost water filtration systems in targeted households or community centers.
Introduce rainwater harvesting or protected wells where possible.
2. Raise Awareness
Conduct educational workshops on waterborne diseases, hygiene, and proper water handling.
Promote behavioral changes in water usage and sanitation practices.
3. Community Engagement
Involve youth volunteers and local leaders in identifying unsafe water sources.
Train community members to maintain and monitor water systems.
4. Reduce Waterborne Illnesses
Track and reduce cases of diarrhea, typhoid, and other diseases linked to dirty water over a specific time period.
5. Sustainability
Establish a system for ongoing maintenance and community ownership of water purification tools.
Collaborate with local health or municipal authorities for long-term support.
Expected result
1. Improved Access to Clean Water
At least 80-90% of target households will have reliable access to safe drinking water.
2. Reduction in Waterborne Diseases
Reported cases of illnesses such as diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid in the community will decrease by 50% or more within the project period.
3. Increased Community Awareness
Over 300 community members (including youth and families) will receive training on safe water practices, hygiene, and sanitation.
4. Functioning Water Purification Systems
All installed filtration units and water sources (e.g., rainwater tanks or protected wells) will be operational and properly maintained.
5. Empowered Local Youth and Leaders
Youth volunteers will take active roles in monitoring water sources, organizing awareness events, and ensuring sustainability.
