About this project
Our project aims to combat glacier melting in Kyrgyzstan by piloting a reforestation program entirely run by youth. We will work in one specific periglacial area to stabilize the soil, reduce air pollution, increase albedo (reflectivity of the surface) and slow down glacier melting.
Goals and Objectives
To protect and preserve glaciers in Kyrgyzstan by identifying optimal reforestation sites through research and implementing youth-led reforestation initiatives to stabilize soil, increase albedo, and reduce glacier melt.
To combat glacier melt in Kyrgyzstan through a phased, evidence-based approach combining scientific research, intergovernmental collaboration, and youth-led community action to restore degraded lands near glaciers.
Expected result
Planting 300 seedlings in a selected area, which directly contributes to soil strengthening and ecosystem protection.
Training 20-30 young people from the local community in reforestation practices and the importance of glacier protection.
Creating a core of youth activists who can become “green guardians” and continue this activity independently.
Involving the local administration and school to obtain permits and attract participants.
