About this project

The project proposes construction of a sand dam and a shallow well in the seasonal Natan River to service +/-1500 pastoralists in East Pokot, Baringo County, Kenya By June 2018. A sand dam is a reinforced rubble cement wall built across a seasonal sandy river. East Pokot is an extremely dry area under normal conditions. It harvests rain water when the river flows and stores water in the sand that serves as the active source of clean water for shallow well sunk on their side of the river bank. When it rains, theriver floods the sand stores water that gradually recharges the aquifer hence making the shallow have a permanent water supply.
