About this project
The Eastern part of Ethiopia is a region that experiences water stress regularly. This is one of the reasons why agricultural water is often scarce. In order to enhance agricultural crop production Rainwater harvesting system is important to the areas of water scarcity. Babile Woreda is Located in Eastern part of Ethiopia. It has a total area of 3,169 km2, and the most crop productions are Maize, sorghum and groundnuts respectively. The climate zone has classified as woinadega (partial dry) and kola (dry) agro-climatic zones and it has shortage water for the crop production and livestock. Therefore, the main goals of this is to Enhance Crop Production through application of Rainwater Harvesting System in Babile Woreda, and to improve the climate resilience of agricultural sector, reduce drought-induced crop failures and to improve productivity and income for small scale farmers. Different implementation will be used for achieving the goals this projects and it is applied ground level local community in Babile Woreda members and different Woreda’s experts. Scheduling different workshop and practices use of rainwater harvesting systems for enhancing crop production.
Goals and Objectives
Goals and Objectives
The overall objective of the project is to Enhance Crop Production through application of Rainwater Harvesting System in Babile Woreda, Ethiopia and to improve the climate resilience of agricultural sector, reduce drought-induced crop failures and to improve productivity and income for small scale farmers.
Objectives of the project detail:
1.     To enhance usage of Rainwater harvesting system for smallholder farmers in Babile Woreda.
2.     To educate smallholder farmers on rain water harvesting and irrigation practices.
3.     Enhancing the resilience of small scale agriculture through the introduction of, inter alia, small scale irrigation.
The project directly addresses three of the key vulnerabilities: (i) food and water insecurity, (ii) exposure of communities, especially women and children, to disaster risks, and (iii) involuntary
Expected result
Expected Result
Stakeholder’s can be awareness the concept of Rainwater Harvesting Systems of Irrigation purpose
Increasing crop production leading to increased food security and incomes
Farmers actively harvesting rain water and have enough water to irrigate and livestock
Improving farming practices leading to environmental conservation and reduced climate change effects
Improving income for Communities and falling the drought conditions of the Woreda
More than 1000 farmers actively harvesting water and have enough water to irrigate their crops and for home usage
