About this project

Unsustainable human activities, including those at the individual level, must be curbed in order to protect and secure water resources globally, especially in the context of climate change. Documentary filmmaking and online engagement can be used to inspire people to make behaviour changes that support healthier water resources. On our multimedia platform Girls Gone Water, we will launch the #BlueLifeChallenge, engaging 6-8 individuals to make behaviour changes that reduce their impact on water through a documentary mini-series.

In each episode, the mini-series will demonstrate the impacts of a specific behaviour on water resources, follow a participant through their behaviour change journey, and highlight the opportunities and challenges to creating more sustainable societies. We will empower project participants to be changemakers by equipping them with resources and providing support to share their stories on the Girls Gone Water platform. Each participants will conclude their journey by designing and implementing a local community initiative to share their experiences and inspire scaleable lifestyle changes in their own communities. The challenge will then be opened up to people around the globe to share their own journeys online and through a dedicated space on the Girls Gone Water platform. The project team and participants will also identify overarching societal opportunities and barriers to sustainable living. The project team will use these findings and project outcomes as the basis for civic engagement at relevant decision-making levels to scale project impacts. As such, the #BlueLifeChallenge will benefit project participants and their communities, the mini-series audience, and decision-makers Most importantly, it will empower individuals to make their own behaviour changes and ultimately lead to better protection and understanding of our shared waters.
