About this project

This project which consists of a variety of activities including baseline and end line surveys to support evidence-based changes, a capacity building seminar, awareness raising campaign and actions both on and offline and establishment of a Safe H20 platform in a public school aims to engage youth in a fun yet fulfilling sustainable experience to address issues of water and health. Kaduna, north-west Nigeria has experienced a cholera outbreak similar to a number of states in Nigeria with fatalities in a public girls secondary school. This once again highlights the difficulties in access to clean portable water and the sanitary situation in this school like many others. The project team belongs to an organisation that is dedicated to harnessing the energy and talent of youth to address issues within their communities; first by themselves and the carrying others along.
By participatory needs driven programming, Safe H20 will be doing something no others have tried in this context and doing so specifically targeting adolescent youth and girls in a  region that has seen its fair share of water related risks and health challenges due to the lack of adequate interventions to prevent them. This intervention also helps to even out the gender gaps in water management and health awareness.
With interventions like this replicated and scaled up, we can address the perennial cholera outbreaks in Nigeria  and provides a cost-effective preventive strategy in response to the many calls for action,
