About this project

The project K’aslem Ya’h desires to build 11 home rain water harvesting systems with 10 of the families most affected by water scarcity as well as to build 1 large rain water system in the public elementary school in the hamlet of Panimaquin, Guatemala. The home rain water harvesting systems will be constructed using eco-bricks (recycled plastic bottles filled with inorganic wastes) and new materials. The project also focuses on training the families in the maintenance and repair of their home rainwater harvesting systems as well as in proper personal hygiene, hygienic food preparation and the hygienic care of their livestock.

Goals and Objectives

Goal - Reduce water scarcity in Panimaquin & Improve families’ health as well as their economies.

Specific objectives – a) Build 10 home rain water harvesting systems and 1 rain water harvesting system in the public elementary school that will increase participants’ capacity to store water. b) Educate families on proper personal hygiene, hygienic food preparation and animal maintenance and on the maintenance of their rain water harvesting systems.

Expected result

Build 10 home RWH systems and 1 public RWH system to benefit over 250 beneficiaries for reducing water scarcity.

I will be partnering with the Guatemalan non-profit organization Compartiendo Nuestras Bendiciones. They will be helping me in the design, plastic bottle recycling campaigns as well as looking for additional funding and volunteers. I will also be partnering with the store Nim Po’t in Antigua, Guatemala who will be donating space in order to collect recycled plastic bottles.
